From what I’ve been told this demo was never supposed to be released. After much convincing Matt Harris agreed to work with Sparky Claybrook, but he never wanted to join the band. Their work was supposed to stay in the studio. After Matt left to join JUNGLE BLUE Sparky decided to one up him. Sparky released these demos before JUNGLE BLUE had a chance to become established. If that story is true it still takes nothing away from this release. These songs are a testament to the genius that is Matt Harris. Bands like DETECTIVE are the reason that this genre is so great. You may be reminded of any number of bands, but the music stands on it’s own in originality. "Ghost In Your Dreams" is a killer song that you won’t be able to get off your mind. "Bang Bang (Sheila)" is so good it will have you singing along. Even the song with Trae Doss on vocals holds up well against the perfection that is those two tracks. You can hear Matt’s influence all over "Girl Like You" even if his vocals are missing. The only somewhat off track on this four song release is "Back To You" and it is not bad. It is a must have for collectors, but is quite a rarity. I believe there were only 250 cassettes pressed. (Jacob Moseby / 2008) |
